Enhancing Brainpower and Creative Thinking through Rope Flow Practice
Introduction
In the quest for unleashing our full potential, we often overlook the fact that our body is infinitely complex and in that complexity exists a path to improve and evolve our cognition. Not evolving only what we think, but how we think. Evolving our very process and approach to the act of thinking in the first place. The mind body connection is often used to make demands of the body: “10 reps of this, 3 sets of that” but Rope Flow offers an alternative game to play. A dynamic and mindful practice, where quality is employed as a tool to focus and develop a sense of quality. Rope Flow is one such discipline that offers a powerful gateway to enhance creativity, cognition, and overall mental acuity. In this blog post, we'll delve into the fascinating world of Rope Flow and how it can stimulate bilateral brain function, unwind patterned thinking, and help individuals develop a deep sense of rhythm and timing.
Bilateral Brain Stimulation: A Cognitive Symphony
At the heart of Rope Flow lies the stimulation of bilateral brain function. From the beginning you learn to bring the hands across the midline of the body, creating a continuous figure eight or infinity pattern. Beyond the spiritual implications of ingraining this pattern these interweaving movements of Rope Flow, both brain hemispheres work in harmony. When this bilateral brain communication is present there is a heightened sense of focus and awareness marked by clear thinking, creativity, and resolving contradictions through discovery. These discoveries are unique to each individual and part of the reason Rope Flow is so appealing. This practice meets you where you are at no matter the day. Every time you pick up the rope no matter the time spent on the rope, you leave with a greater sense of harmony, like you tuned yourself.
Pattern Thinking: Unwinding Old Ways of Being
Pattern thinking might also be called reactive thinking are actions that are carried out without treating the situation as new. The traditional psychotherapy approach does work, however where it fails is in integration. Memories are viewed in the mind but they are stored in the body. These memories are stored as patterned ways of moving and feeling. A common approach to change is often “thinking better”, there is no doubt this is a necessary component but the question becomes is it the best route to combat negative thinning only with thinking itself? A fight fire with fire situation perhaps but an alternative is to simply “clear out” the un useful memories stored in the body, in the form of pattern movement. Rope flow offers a gentle but effective process that works from the center out. It encourages individuals to not only think in spiral patterns and infinity patterns but teaches you how to move that way. Many spiritual concepts or even plain old philosophy can get stuck in the land of platitudes because the concept stays just that, a concept. How do you embody being one with the universe while you’re at the grocery store or walking to your car? The rope creates a unique cognitive bridge that links your thoughts with your movements. This fusion of thought and action fosters a deep well of creativity and allows for the emergence of novel ideas and physical expressions especially in everyday living.
In the left video you can see the lack of focus in my eyes, head and the lack of energy in my upper back and neck. 3 minutes or refining the feeling and quality of movement, later my gaze is involved, spine erect, neck poised and both shoulders moving as well as the arms and wrists.
Rhythm and Timing : A Harmonious Synchronization
Any vocalists and musicians will find this particularly interesting. Rhythm and timing are vital not only for musicians but everyone with a body. There are approximating 206 bones meeting at 360 different joints that are either banging on the floor with every step or are moving in harmony with grace, the difference is rhythm. Rope Flow offers an extraordinary opportunity to develop a whole-body sense of rhythm and timing. The audio feedback of the ropes informs when to move and the momentum of the ropes teaches how to move. Where to move from, how to move as one and when you’re forcing it all of this together contribute to a heightened sense of timing. We at Nya Bloom have incorporated Rope Flow into our collaborative writing sessions between Vocalists, writing while doing the same pattern allows each writer to get a sense of the other’s timing creating harmonious synchronization between their vocal performance and the pocket of the lyrics.
Conclusion: Embark on a Journey of Self-Discovery
Rope Flow can just be a physical practice if you choose to look at it that way; or it can be a process of discovering how you think. Uncovering the blindspots in your approach and filling in those gaps with quality. By stimulating bilateral brain function, embracing pattern thinking, and fostering a sense of rhythm and timing, Rope Flow ignites creativity and cognitive awareness.
